Tanzania highway deals won by Chinese contractors

Two road upgrade contracts in Tanzania have been awarded to four Chinese construction firms. In all the work will be worth some US$312.74 million and will extend to 432km of road improvements.

Two road upgrade contracts in Tanzania have been awarded to four Chinese construction firms. In all the work will be worth some US$312.74 million and will extend to 432km of road improvements. The roads being improved run from Tabora to Koga and between Mbinga and Mbamba Bay. The four Chinese contractors are the Geo Engineering Group Corporation, 7051 China Henan International Cooperation Group, 890 China Railway Seventh Group Company and 1581 China Wu Yi Company. The projects are expected to take 36 months to complete with the work being managed by the Tanzania National Road Agency.

    Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic development agency the Central Development Working Party approved six projects worth US$865 million, including the China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) Raikot section Phase-1. The Raikot section is the 120km Havalian-Thakot stretch and alone is worth around $830 million, according to a report from The Nation newspaper.
