Tanzania highway deals won by Chinese contractors

Two road upgrade contracts in Tanzania have been awarded to four Chinese construction firms. In all the work will be worth some US$312.74 million and will extend to 432km of road improvements.

Two road upgrade contracts in Tanzania have been awarded to four Chinese construction firms. In all the work will be worth some US$312.74 million and will extend to 432km of road improvements. The roads being improved run from Tabora to Koga and between Mbinga and Mbamba Bay. The four Chinese contractors are the Geo Engineering Group Corporation, 7051 China Henan International Cooperation Group, 890 China Railway Seventh Group Company and 1581 China Wu Yi Company. The projects are expected to take 36 months to complete with the work being managed by the Tanzania National Road Agency.

Some US$322 million of funding is being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Upgrades will be carried out on the roads connecting Rumonge with Gitaz as well as Kabingo with Kasulu and Manyovu. An new border post will be constructed.
