Close to US$641 million is being targeted for extension work to Taiwan's South Link Highway. The extension work will cover a distance of some 40km and run from Taitung county's Sianglan village to Pintung county's Caopu village. Other improvements planned include a new four-lane route between Ansu village and Caopu that features two tunnels, measuring 4.8km and 200m long respectively. This new link will cut journey times as it will reduce the travel distance by nearly 5km. In addition, the Daniao-Sianglan section of the highway will be extended to become a four-lane section. Bidding is due to commence later this year with the completion dated targeted for 2017.
