Sydney, Australia seeing road development projects continue

Massive spending in a major road project will boost transport in Australia’s busy city of Sydney, helping cut chronic congestion. Building and improving the road links to connect with the new WestConnex motorway project is expected to cost in the order of US$ 21.97 billion in all. The construction of the WestConnex motorway is itself expected to cost some $12.7 billion. Meanwhile building the exit section at St Peters will itself cost in the order of $757 million.

In the state of Victoria, the authorities are planning a road widening project for the Monash Freeway that will cost an estimated US$289.54 million (A$400 million). The project calls for the route to be widened to five lanes in either direction for the stretch between the EastLink and the South Gippsland Highway.

Called the ‘Sydney Gateway Project’ the new road link is expected to cost in the region of US$1.55 billion (A$2.2 billion) to build. The new route would improve transport connections between Paramatta, on the city’s western side, and the airport, located to the east. Building the new road connection is expected to help lower peak time congestion and journey times for drivers.
