Sunda Strait Bridge project for Indonesia

Progress is being made in Indonesia with regard to the Sunda Strait Bridge project. Construction work is expected to start shortly and the cost of the project has been estimated at some US$10.6 billion.

Progress is being made in Indonesia with regard to the Sunda Strait Bridge project. Construction work is expected to start shortly and the cost of the project has been estimated at some US$10.6 billion. Financing has still to be finalised however with discussions on-going within Indonesia as to whether the project will be funded by private sources or the government.  The bridge will form an essential component of the Masterplan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Economic Development for the Sumatra corridor.

    Plans are in hand in Indonesia for the Sunda Strait Bridge project. The Indonesian Government intends construction work to commence in 2014. The project will be funded by private investors which will also be given concessions to develop Lampung and Banten. Foreign investment will be required, no matter which firm wins the project.     A consortium in Indonesia is being established to push ahead with the US$16.7 billion Sunda Straits Bridge project. Organisational input for the consortium is coming from Indonesia's Public Work Ministry and the group will comprise private investors, state-owned companies and regional government-owned companies in Lampung and Banten provinces. The consortium will have to be established by the end of 2010 for the programme to remain on track.
