STRABAG working on Slovakian highway

A consortium is now working on the construction of one stretch of Slovakia’s D1 highway. The section lies between Hričovské Podhradie and Lietavská Lúčka and the project is worth €427 million. The consortium comprises four companies; with Doprastav, Váhostav and STRABAG all holding equal 32% stakes of the contract and Metrostav having a minority 4% share. The work being carried out by Doprastav, Váhostav and STRABAG is equivalent to some €140 million each. The construction work is expected to take 48 months

A consortium is now working on the construction of one stretch of Slovakia’s D1 highway. The section lies between Hričovské Podhradie and Lietavská Lúčka and the project is worth €427 million. The consortium comprises four companies; with 2877 Doprastav, Váhostav and 945 Strabag all holding equal 32% stakes of the contract and Metrostav having a minority 4% share. The work being carried out by Doprastav, Váhostav and Strabag is equivalent to some €140 million each. The construction work is expected to take 48 months and the section is for an 11km stretch of the highway. The work will be challenging however as it includes the construction of 11 tunnels and 12 bridges. The D1 highway will form part of the E50 international transport corridor running from Paris via Nuremberg and Prague through Ukraine to Russia.

    Bidding is strong for the works to construct two bypasses in Slovakia. The road links are the 14.5km long northern Kosice bypass and the 8km Presov bypass. Both bypasses form part of the D1 motorway. The estimated value of both projects is nearly €580 million. Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS opened the bids for the Presov by-pass before the end of 2015. A consortium comprising local firm Duha and Salini Impregilo is amongst the bidders for the work.
