Sri Lanka port tunnel approved

Approval has been given for a new port tunnel connection project in Sri Lanka. The project will be carried out under the PPP model and will connect capital Colombo with Port City. The work will be carried out by with CHEC Port City Colombo, a subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

Approval has been given for a new port tunnel connection project in Sri Lanka. The project will be carried out under the PPP model and will connect capital Colombo with Port City. The work will be carried out by with CHEC Port City Colombo, a subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). The new tunnel will provide a road connection from Port City to the road network serving Colombo. The planned route runs from Marive Drive and under the Galle Face Green esplanade to Port City.

    Sri Lanka is setting out plans for improvements to around 3,400km of rural roads. The work will largely be paid for through a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The work will cost US$172.1 million in all, of which $150 million will be in the shape of the ADB loan and the remaining $22.1 million coming from the Sri Lankan Government budget.
