The Indonesian firm Waskita Karya will carry out a major road contract in South Sudan. The project is worth US$1.43 billion and the package of works was awarded by the South Sudan Government.
The plan is to build a new road measuring a total of 1,000km, with the project being split into four sections, each around 250km long. Construction work is commencing in mid-2022.
Concrete components for the project will be supplied by Waskita Beton Precast (WSBP), a specialist subsidiary of Waskita Karya, in a deal worth $243.4 million.
The project will help develop South Sudan’s economy and will improve connections to neighbouring countries such as Kenya and Uganda, as well as other East African nations.
