Slovakia’s roads and bridges to be improved

A new plan from Slovakia’s Ministry for Transport and Construction will see upgrade work being carried out to 180km of major roads and 60 or more bridges. A finance package of €200 million has been secured for the work, which will be carried out over the next 36 months. A new plan from Slovakia’s Ministry for Transport and Construction will see upgrade work being carried out to 180km of major roads and 60 or more bridges. A finance package of €200 million has been secured for the work, which will be carried out over the next 36 months. This programme of works is being financed by the OP Integrated Infrastructure (OPII) fund.

At present, 122km of dual carriageways and motorways are under construction in Slovakia according to the state-owned road firm NDS. Completion of the D1 route has been prioritised.

    Excavation work on Slovakia’s Visnove Tunnel has now been completed. Driving the tunnel took nine months longer than originally anticipated.     Construction has started on the €117 million bridge over the Danube River between the Hungarian town of Komarom and the Slovak town of Komarno. Around 85% of the cost will be covered by European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility. Completion is planned for winter 2019. Last summer it was announced that the Hungarian companies Hidepito and Meszaros es Meszaros had won the tender for the 600m bridge but with a price tag of just over €91 million, according to Hungarian media.   • Czech republic to complete 80km of motorway out of 230km

    The Czech government said that around 80km of highways out of 230km under construction will be finished this year. Completed work includes the upgraded sections of the D1 motorway.
