Slovakia to use €4bn EU funding on roads

Slovakia plans to use €4 billion of its €15.3 billion EU funding package for 2014-2020 on road projects. The projects include the construction of several new stretches of the D1 and D3 motorways, as well as repairs and modernisations of Class II and Class III roads. The government in cooperation with the regions are currently drafting a strategic plan for the development and maintenance of roads at a regional level.

    Slovakia's Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, has reported that construction of the 12.28km long D3 highway stretch is on schedule. The section runs between Svrcinovec and Skalite and could be opened to traffic at the end of 2016.   • Slovakia keeps to planned D1 Hubova-Ivachnova completion date

    Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS has confirmed the D1 motorway between Hubova and Ivachnova is on schedule to be completed by mid-2022. Work on the 15km stretch of road – effectively a bypass for the town of Ruzomberok –was started in 2013. But a major landslide in 2015 halted work, pushing back completion from 2017 to 2022 at the latest estimate.   • New roads to connect Slovakia and Czech Republic

    New road links are planned to connect Slovakia and its neighbour, the Czech Republic. The Slovak Ministry of Transport stated that by 2020 two new routes are planned to link the countries.
