Slovakia highway construction programme on track

Slovakia is pushing ahead with its road building plans, which will see over 56 m of motorways being completed by end of 2015. This is the main priority of the Slovak Transport Ministry for 2015. Slovakia is pushing ahead with its road building plans, which will see over 56 m of motorways being completed by end of 2015. This is the main priority of the Slovak Transport Ministry for 2015. The Slovakian Government also plans to complete tenders for the construction of 90km of bypasses for Bratislava, Kosice and Presov. The Slovak Transport Ministry intends to complete two sections of the D1 route, the 11.2km Fricovce-Svinia stretch and the 18.5km Janovce - Jablonov section as well as the 10.4km stretch of the R2 expressway from Pstrusa – Krivan.

Work on a 16km section of the D1 highway is underway, which will help reduce traffic problems in the Martin, Vrutky, Sucany and Turany regions. The project was worth €137.75 million, of which €78 million was provided by the EU's operational transport programme.

    Bidding is strong for the works to construct two bypasses in Slovakia. The road links are the 14.5km long northern Kosice bypass and the 8km Presov bypass. Both bypasses form part of the D1 motorway. The estimated value of both projects is nearly €580 million. Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS opened the bids for the Presov by-pass before the end of 2015. A consortium comprising local firm Duha and Salini Impregilo is amongst the bidders for the work.

  • Slovakia’s D1 motorway Korbelka tunnel could cost €278mn

    The D1 motorway tunnel Korbelka in Slovakia is estimated to now cost €278 million, according to a report in Pravda Slovakia. But the chosen 6km route is a safer option than another route alongside the Vah River that would have taken in a potential landslide area. Because of the slide risk, a further €202 million would be needed to shore up the hillside. More work will have to be done to finalise the route, meaning work would not start until likely 2019, according to the report. Slovakia's Transport
