Construction has commenced on a key expressway project for Singapore. This new 21.5km expressway will improve traffic flow between the city centre and the north of the territory.

Called the North-South Corridor (NSC), the project is costing an estimated US$5.4 billion. The work will see the construction of a new expressway that will help reduce peak time congestion. The project includes work to underpasses and building links and interchanges to existing roads.

The work is expected to take until 2026 to complete. However, it may also see additional costs as the work progresses. Geological conditions on Singapore are not ideal for construction in many areas and it is understood that more works may have to be carried out to prepare the route for example.

The LTA said the 14th and final civil contract for the design and construction of the NSC was awarded in December 2019.
