Serbia tunnel project due for completion

Works on Serbia’s Strazevica tunnel is due for completion in May 2012. The tunnel forms part of the Belgrade ring road. Serbia’s government is also planning to finish the construction of a total of 200km of the Corridor 10 motorway, following the completion of the Strazevica–Bubanj and Batajnica–Dobanovci sections. Work on the remaining 130km will commence soon. Meanwhile, work on the Ljig–Preljina section of Corridor 11 is now underway.

    Talks between the Chinese Development Bank and the Serbian Government could result in Chinese funding for Serbian highway projects. The Danube coast project and the Corridor 11 highway project have been identified. Some €400-€450 million of Chinese financing could be made available to Serbia for highway projects following the most recent series of discussions. Serbia’s Ministry for Transport is also in talks with Chinese partners for the construction of a series of highway projects.

  • Serbia reduces cost of highway construction

    Serbia has managed to reduce the cost of building the Corridor 10 highway by €80 million. These funds will instead be used to pay for upgrades and improvements needed for the second section of the highway project, close to Neradovci. So far some 180km of the Corridor 10 highway has been built over a 40 month time frame. A further 150km of the highway has still to be built. Work on the Corridor 10 motorway is also being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the state budget.

  • New Serbia highways on track for completion

    Serbia’s Obrenovac-Preljina highway is due to be completed by 2017. Serbia’s Ministry of Construction says that the Obrenovac-Preljina and Ljig-Preljina routes are being financed with the aid of a €274.5 million loan from China's Exim Bank, worth a total of USD 301mn (EUR 274.48mn), while the state budget secured a total of €30.1 million.   • Chinese firms to build three motorways in Serbia covering a combined 190km

    Chinese companies are to take part in a number of motorway construction projects in Serbia, according to the country’s ministry of construction and urbanism. The routes will cover a combined 190km and follow the Serbian government’s December 2012 signing of a pre-contract deal for the construction of the Lajkovac-Ljig and Obrenovac-Ub sections of the Corridor 11 motorway, worth US$333 million, with the representatives of the Chinese firm Shandong High Speed Corporation.
