Serbia transport infrastructure development programme

Serbia is developing a major transport infrastructure development programme.

Serbia plans to spend €5 billion on developing the country's road transport and infrastructure network. This will be invested in the road network by 2025, forming the country’s Serbia 2025 plan.

The country’s Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure says that preparations are already underway for work to build 400km of new highway links. Construction is now being carried out for the Moravski Koridor, and Preljina-Pozega highway routes.

    Works on Serbia’s Strazevica tunnel is due for completion in May 2012. The tunnel forms part of the Belgrade ring road. Serbia’s government is also planning to finish the construction of a total of 200km of the Corridor 10 motorway, following the completion of the Strazevica–Bubanj and Batajnica–Dobanovci sections. Work on the remaining 130km will commence soon. Meanwhile, work on the Ljig–Preljina section of Corridor 11 is now underway.

    It’s been slow progress on Serbia’s Corridor X project. Gordon Feller reports. Back in the early 2000’s, the European Union undertook an ambitious programme to link the main cities of its south-eastern region. This involved connecting five key seaports – the Greek cities of Patras, Igoumenitsa, Piraeus and Thessaloniki as well as Romania’s Black Sea city of Constanta.
