Serbia highway tendering

The tender process is opening in Serbia for a major new highway construction project. The Moravski Koridor project involves the construction of a new highway measuring 112km in all. Bidding is opening for the project, which will improve journey times between Pojate and Preljina in central Serbia although estimated costs for the work have not so far been released.

    Talks between the Chinese Development Bank and the Serbian Government could result in Chinese funding for Serbian highway projects. The Danube coast project and the Corridor 11 highway project have been identified. Some €400-€450 million of Chinese financing could be made available to Serbia for highway projects following the most recent series of discussions. Serbia’s Ministry for Transport is also in talks with Chinese partners for the construction of a series of highway projects.

    Work is underway in Serbia for the Corridor 11 highway project and a number of local firms are now carrying out construction work on the Corridor 11 section from Ub to Lajkovac. Meanwhile Azvirt from Azerbaijan is preparing the Ljig to Preljina stretch of the highway, with the €300 million work being financed by Azerbaijan. The Serbian Government is asking China’s Exim Bank for a long term loan of €850 million, of which €300 million would be for the Corridor 11 project and €550 million would be for the Mora
