Serbia highway projects moving ahead

Progress is being seen in Serbia with regard to some of the country’s key highway projects. The Ljig-Preljina stretch of the Corridor 11 highway will open for traffic at the end of October 2016. The highway route will be tolled but these will not be implemented until the start of 2017. Plans are also moving ahead for the ring road project for the capital, Belgrade.     Serbian vice president Zorana Mihajlovic has held talks with Li Manchang, China's Ambassador to Serbia in Serbia, for continuation of works on Belgrade’s ring road. According to the political magazine B92, Mihajlovic also signed a memorandum of understanding with Azvirt, the company from Azerbaijan, and China's Sinohidro.   • Serbia reduces cost of highway construction

    Serbia has managed to reduce the cost of building the Corridor 10 highway by €80 million. These funds will instead be used to pay for upgrades and improvements needed for the second section of the highway project, close to Neradovci. So far some 180km of the Corridor 10 highway has been built over a 40 month time frame. A further 150km of the highway has still to be built. Work on the Corridor 10 motorway is also being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the state budget.
