Romania’s road expansion plan

Romania has major plans to extend its highway network in the 2024-2025 period. This will be extended from the 970km at present to a total of 1,300km by the end of 2025.

Construction work is already underway on 320km of highway projects, according to Romania’s road authority, CNADNR. A new stretch of the A3 highway will connect Cluj-Napoca with Oradea in the north of Romania, providing transport improvements for the E60 route. Construction work is also being carried out for the section of the A1 highway linking the cities of Sibiu and Pitesti, which forms part of the E81 route.

Meanwhile, bidding is strong for Lot 3 of the expressway connecting Ara with Oradea, with nine proposals received so far. This 47km road section is expected to cost €712.6 million and should take 24 months to complete.
