Austrian contractor 945 Strabag is to upgrade Romania's national roads DN14 and DN15A in deals worth a total of some €106 million. The projects will include the widening and improvement of the existing road network, upgrading bridges, and installing safety measures. The works will take place on DN14 between Sibiu and Sighiºoara and on DN15A between Târgu Mureº and Sãrãþel. Altogether, STRABAG will improve 150km of national road. Construction work is set to commence in April 2011 and is due for completion in March 2013. These projects form part of the sixth rehabilitation programme of national roads in Romania and are financed by funds from the 1054 European Investment Bank and from the national budget. The contracts are of note as Romania's highway network is at present poorly developed and the country has one of the worst road networks in Europe, along with Albania and Bulgaria.
