STRABAG will carry out work on a further stretch of Romania’s A3 highway project

The Austrian contractor STRABAG has been awarded the follow-up contract for the A3 highway in Romania. This 4.5km highway section runs between Ungheni and Târgu Mureș and the work will include building a spur route.

The value of the contract for the road stretch from Ungheni and Târgu Mureș is worth €40 million. The spur route included in the deal itself measures 4.7km and features two lanes in either direction. The work is planned to start in July 2020 and is expected to take 18 months to complete. The contract was awarded to STRABAG by CNAIR, the Romanian road company.

Construction of the Ungheni–Ogra section of the A3 highway was completed successfully in 2018. “A follow-up order is always a positive sign that our work has been valued by the client. After handing over the 10.1 km section between Ungheni and Ogra in 2018, we are happy to continue working on this central traffic artery,” said Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG.
