Romania-Bulgaria bridge

Work is progressing on track with the new Danube Bridge 2, which will connect Bulgaria and Romania.

Work is progressing on track with the new Danube Bridge 2, which will connect Bulgaria and Romania. Around 60% of the work has now been completed, along with some 50% of the connecting roads and other necessary infrastructure improvements. The new bridge will run from Vidin in Bulgaria to Calafat in Romania and it is due for completion by the end of 2011. The bridge will provide a combined road and rail link and the connections to the Romanian and Bulgarian networks will be finished after the bridge itself has been completed.

Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden, France and Slovenia have all made reductions of more than 50% in the number of deaths on their roads since 2001, says the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC). The organisation’s 2011 PIN [Road Safety Performance Index] Awards went to Sweden and Lithuania recognising their particular efforts in reducing road deaths.
