A series of road upgrade projects will be carried out in Kerala State in India. The plans call for seven highway routes to be improved, while a new highway is also being built. The projects are being coordinated and financed by the Indian Government.

In all, the plans will see 200km of work being carried out at a total cost of US$1.56 billion. The new 27km highway stretch will provide an improved connection from Kazhakoottam to Mukkola. The aim of the road construction programme is to help develop Kerala’s economy, which relies heavily on tourism and agriculture.
