Road upgrade for key South African connection

Plans are in hand in South Africa for road improvements to a key link between Pongola and eDumbe. The work involves improvements to some 77km of road in all and is expected to cost in the region of US$113 million.

Plans are in hand in South Africa for road improvements to a key link between Pongola and eDumbe. The work involves improvements to some 77km of road in all and is expected to cost in the region of US$113 million. The project is being planned by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, with the first stage of the project underway and involving improvements to a 6.5km stretch of the D-1867 road. The work is expected to be complete by the 2019-2020 fiscal year and is helping provide jobs to the local communities involved.

    Work to upgrade a section of Paraguay’s Route 8 between Caazapa and Yuty is finally close to completion. The work to improve the 73km section of the highway is some two years behind schedule.     In Chile the authorities are working on plans to improve transport links between capital Santiago and the nearby port of Valparaiso.
