Polish project tender attracts interest

Interest is strong in the contract to build a new stretch of expressway in the north of Poland. Nine bids have been made for the project to built a 17km stretch of the S16 expressway, which lies close to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. This section will connect Borki Wielke and Mragowo and the work also includes construction a bypass around the latter. The bids range in value from €164.4 million up to €234 million. Work is expected to commence in 2020 and take until 2023 to complete.

Poland’s highways authority, GDDKiA, is analysing the four potential routes for the S10 road, which will connect with Warsaw’s outer ring road, itself still to be completed. The different routes have estimated costs ranging from €5.34 billion to €5.99 billion and all connect with the A1, though at different intersections. Financing for the work should be secured by 2020, with tendering expected in 2025 and construction due to commence in 2026.

    Contractor STRABAG has won deals to construct two more sections of the S7 route in Poland for some €198 million. The firm will build a total of 36km of the S7 route to the north of capital Warsaw. The construction work for the four lane route is expected to take 34 months to complete.     Slovak contractors Vahostav-SK and TuCon will build the first stage of the 4.3km northern bypass in Presov on the R4 dual carriageway.
