The tender process is opening for the construction of an 18.5km section of the S2 dual carriageway from Pulawska junction to Lubelska junction. The General Direction of National Roads and Motorways (1361 GDDKiA) is keen for the southern Warsaw ring road to be open to traffic by 2019. The Pulawska-Lubleska section of the road will be challenging to construct however and is expected to cost some €1.6 billion. The high price is due in part to the need for a tunnel running under Ursynow district.

Meanwhile in Torun a new road bridge spanning the Vistula River has been opened to traffic. The General Elzbieta Zawacka Bridge is 540m long and 30m wide, with two lanes for vehicle traffic, a pedestrian path on one side and a cycle lane on the other. The steel bridge features two 270m arched spans resting on a single support in the river. Construction commenced in November 2010 and the bridge cost €180 million to construct, with the EU supplying some of the funding required.
