Planned Bosnia highway project on track

The project to construct Bosnia’s Corridor Vc highway is on track, with completion scheduled for 2020. So far some 6km of the highway has been built, which includes a 3km tunnel stretch. In all the Corridor Vc project calls for the construction of a 330km highway. The Bosnian motorway company, Autoceste Federacije BiH, has not so far revealed the cost of the project however.

In all the Corridor Vc project calls for the construction of a 330km highway. The Bosnian motorway company, Autoceste Federacije BiH, has not so far revealed the cost of the project however.

    Bosnia’s highway company Autoceste Federacije BiH will invest €500 million in the construction of the Corridor Vc road. The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a loan of €166 million to part finance the project. The plans call for the construction of the 56km highway as well as an additional 10km of the Sarajevo ringroad. The cost of the project is three times higher than any other that the country has so far planned. Autoceste Federacije BiH has said that it will finance land expropriation.

    Around two-thirds of the Corridor 5c motorway project is expected to be completed by 2020, according to the director of the Bosnian motorways company JP Autoceste. Jasmin Buco said that 120km out of 337km of the motorway are complete. The corridor section, to connect Budapest with Ploce port in Croatia, is taking the most time. He said that the cost of the remaining part of the motorway is expected to be around €2.81 billion.

    Key road construction projects are now moving forward in Bosnia with work on-track for the Sarajevo ringroad as well as the Corridor Vc highway. Construction of a 130km section of the Corridor Vc highway should be complete by 2014 according to Bosnia's Ministry of Transport and Telecoms. Work on the first section of the Sarajevo ringroad should be completed within five months, following the signing of an agreement worth €17 million between the Austrian firm Strabag and the Bosnian company HP Investing. The
