Plan proposed for Paraguayan programme of bridge replacement

Work is starting in Paraguay on a programme to construct 100 reinforced concrete bridges. These will replace old wooden structures that have been deemed obsolete and the work is due for completion by the end of 2015. The programme of works is costing US$75 million, with the Paraguayan Government paying $25 million for the work and the remaining $50 million being provided by the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). Work is starting in Paraguay on a programme to construct 100 reinforced concrete bridges. These will replace old wooden structures that have been deemed obsolete and the work is due for completion by the end of 2015. The programme of works is costing US$75 million, with the Paraguayan Government paying $25 million for the work and the remaining $50 million being provided by the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). The project forms part of a much wider $7.66 billion infrastructure investment programme by the Paraguayan Public Works and Communications Ministry (MOPC) that will run until 2018. Road works costing around $500 million will also be carried out in 2014 as part of the plan.

    The European Investment Bank (EIB) is reported to be in talks with the sponsors of the A-66 Benavente-Zamora highway public private partnership (PPP) in Spain over a possible bond financing deal, which would see the Bank provide subordinated debt for an A-rated bond issue. The possible bond issue would be a further greenfield project to launch the European Union’s Project Bond 2020 initiative, with its initial pilot stage being managed by the EIB.
