Plan proposed for Paraguayan programme of bridge replacement

Work is starting in Paraguay on a programme to construct 100 reinforced concrete bridges. Work is starting in Paraguay on a programme to construct 100 reinforced concrete bridges. These will replace old wooden structures that have been deemed obsolete and the work is due for completion by the end of 2015. The programme of works is costing US$75 million, with the Paraguayan Government paying $25 million for the work and the remaining $50 million being provided by the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). The project forms part of a much wider $7.66 billion infrastructure investment programme by the Paraguayan Public Works and Communications Ministry (MOPC) that will run until 2018. Road works costing around $500 million will also be carried out in 2014 as part of the plan.

    A series of road projects is now being funded in Paraguay due to financing being provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications is scheduling new road projects in the eastern part of the country during the first half of 2015. The US$105 million IADB loan will pay for 400kms of new roads and 2km of new bridges, with much of the work being carried out in rural areas.
