Philippines bridge projects planned

Plans are in hand in the Philippines for a series of bridge construction projects. Two of the key bridge projects are for links between Luzon and Samar Island and from Leyte Island to Surigao. The work is expected to cost some US$3.85 billion. Construction work could commence in early 2018.

    Construction work for a new expressway and tunnel project in Laos will commence in early 2018. The 113.5km route will connect capital Vientane, in the south of the country, with Vangvieng. A 679m tunnel will be constructed at Phoupha Mountain between Naxaithong district and Vangvieng district. The project is costing US$1.2 billion to construct and will be carried out by a China and Laos joint venture.

    In the Philippines a new road connection forms part of a wider plan to upgrade the key Subic Bay Port. The work is being planned by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the new road link will connect through to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).
