Peru plans Pan-American project

Peruvian plans for the Pan-American Highways expect key stretches of the route to be complete during July of this year and another during 2016. One construction company will complete its contract for the Chincha-Pisco stretch of the highway by July, reports Business News Americas. Peruvian plans for the Pan-American Highways expect key stretches of the route to be complete during July of this year and another during 2016. One construction company will complete its contract for the Chincha-Pisco stretch of the highway by July, reports Business News Americas. Meanwhile work on the the Pisco-Ica stretch should be finished in 2016. The work in Ica region is of importance to Peru’s economy as this area is home to the country’s biggest agro-export industries, Minsur's tin smelter, Aceros Arequipa's Pisco steelworks, Milpo's Cerro Lindo zinc mine, the Peru LNG gas export plant and the Camisea gas fractionation plant.

The concessions have faced delays stemming from a lack of agreement between the central government and concessionaires over technical parameters. The projects form part of the transport and communications ministry's US$3 billion infrastructure budget for 2015, which includes the awarding of 2,000km of concessions to repair the Pan-American Highway.

In addition, the 2,376km Andean longitudinal highway will be 100% paved by July 2016. The Peruvian Government is planning to award concessions for stretches two, four and five of the highway this year.
