Peru is restarting works on its highway routes. By the end of July 2020,some US$1.2 billion worth of new road contracts will have been awarded.

The contracts will be for improvements and upgrades to 50,000km of rural roads, with the work intended for completion by July 2021.

A further 15,000km of regional roads and 27,000km of national roads will also be upgraded. At present just 13% of the regional roads are surfaced, so the improvements will include surfacing work.

The road improvements are intended to help restart the Peruvian economy following the setbacks resulting from the Corona Virus pandemic.
