The Peruvian government has announced that the US$182 million construction of a road to link Tacna (Peru) with La Paz (Bolivia), via Collpa, will begin in 2015. This new road will benefit more than 268,000 people living in the south of Peru.
Several key new road links will be built in Bolivia following the investment of US$150 million by the country’s road authority, Administradora Boliviana de Carreteras (ABC). The construction work will centre on Chuquisaca with work planned on some 302km of new roads. The work will include the 46.5km Sucre-Ravelo stretch, which is expected to cost $30 million, while work on the 68km Zudanez-Padilla road is expected to cost over $30 million.
Bolivia is looking to source funding for two major highway projects from China. This development could follow discussions between Bolivia's vice-president Alvaro Garcia Linera and Chinese funding bodies being held during his trip to China. The highways in focus are the links from Porvenir to Chive and from Chive to Ixiamas. The 151km Porvenir to Chive highway is expected to cost around US$385 million to construct. The US$225 million loan will be used to improve roads in Bolivia, with the most important project being for the repair and upgrade of the link connecting Trinidad with Santa Cruz. The funds will help pay for improvements to a 567km stretch of this road, which will be resurfaced and improved. The work is expected to cost around $215 million to complete
