This 227km stretch of the bi-oceanic highway runs from Carmelo Peralta to Loma Plata and the deal was awarded by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). The consortium is made up of the firms Queiroz Galvao and Ocho A, with the partners bidding US$443.5 million for the work and construction is due to start within six months. However it is not clear whether there will be any future legal challenges to the deal. The firm Queiroz Galvao is currently under investigation in Brazil and Peru with regard to allegations of irregularities over the award of previous infrastructure contracts.
