Oman announces major infrastructure investment programme

The authorities in Oman have plans for a major programme of infrastructure investments. Tenders for a series of projects worth close to US$360 million have now been awarded. The projects include construction of the South Al Batinah Expressway. This is package 5 of the expressway project and construction of this section will cost £344.4 million.

    Construction work on a key highway link in Oman is due to commence shortly. The 46km stretch of highway will be built by a joint venture comprising Serbian firm Konstruktor and Indian company Simplex Infrastructure. The project is worth some US$335 million and Simplex Infrastructure will be the majority partner with 52%, while Konstruktor will hold the remaining 48%.     A major new expressway will link Tizi-Ouzou in Algeria to the country’s East-West highway. The local authorities have been given a budget of US$623 million for the project. The expressway will connect to the East-West highway at Bouira.
