The work is being carried out in a series of sections, with bridges in Williams County being replaced or refurbished during 2016. Resurfacing work is being carried out on the route on stretches during 2016, including sections in Sandusky County, Erie County and Lorain County. Built in the period from 1949 to 1955, the tolled highway now incorporates I-76, I-80 and I-90, although it actually predates the construction of the US Interstate highway system. As a result the route is one of the oldest highway stretches in the US, which is why it has been in such need of improvement.
