Nicaragua’s road transport plan is being developed.

Nicaragua is working on a major programme of road development and expansion. The plans are being drawn up by Nicaragua’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI).

In all, 13 road projects are being planned for 2021. One of the key projects wil be for the 90km second stage of construction for the Costanera road on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast. This new stretch is intended to connect Masachapa, El Transito, Salinas Grandes and Poneloya.

Work on the first section of the Costanera road links with Nicaragua’s border with neighbouring Costa Rica.

    Nicaragua’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has awarded the first of a series of contracts to upgrade the NIC 3 highway. The construction work will be carried out by a consortium comprising contractors Constructora Meco, CEMEX and Llansa Ingenieros. This first phase will be for a 34.4km section of the route while the second stretch will be 15.6km long.   • Nicaragua road project funding deal

    Nicaragua’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) is setting out its road development programme for 2018. In all the plans call for the construction of 171km of roads. Work will be completed for the road from Mulukuku to Siuna, with the first 23km stretch due to open in September 2018 and the remaining 21.5km expected in December 2018.
