New Zealand’s Southern Corridor project faces fresh delay

A further delay now faces construction work on New Zealand’s Southern Corridor improvement project. Completion of the work for the project now looks to be delayed for another year. Construction originally commenced in October 2015. The Southern Motorway project Is intended to improve transport from Papakura to Manukau in Auckland and has a pricetag of US$177.85 million (NZ$268 million).

    Work on a major new highway connection is now underway in New Zealand. The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) says that preparatory work for a 4.5km stretch of highway is underway. Actual construction expected to commence in late December 2012. Completion of the project is due by 2016, with the highway costing some US$1.32 billion. Building the expressway has taken five years and comes with a total pricetag of US$262.7 million (NZ$408 million). The final section of the route will be open in late 2021 and will bypass the city of Hamilton.
