Road improvement works are planned for the outlying areas of Whanganui in New Zealand’s North Island. Upgrade works will be carried out to State Highway 4, which has suffered from landslips as well as flooding in the past. Improvements and maintenance will also be carried out to State Highway 3 close to Whangaehu, where flooding has also been a problem.
The work will form part of the wider National Land Transport Plan. A budget of US$911.2 million (NZ$1.3 billion) has been set for improvement works in the region around Whanganui.
