New Zealand road safety budget increase

New Zealand is increasing its budget for road safety measures. Included in the plan for the 2018/2019 period will be a series of upgrades to noted danger spots on local roads as well as improving intersections. The budget will now be US$2.76 billion (NZ$4 billion), an increase from the $2.48 billion (NZ$3.6 billion) for the 2017/2018 period.

  • New Zealand’s Southern Corridor project faces fresh delay

    A further delay now faces construction work on New Zealand’s Southern Corridor improvement project. Completion of the work for the project now looks to be delayed for another year. Construction originally commenced in October 2015.     Construction for a new Norwegian road link is now being restarted, with approval having been given for the project. Work on the Nordøyvegen road project commenced in 2017 but was halted over concerns at its cost. The work came with an initial pricetag of close to €588 million. However revisions to the plans have resulted in a lower pricetag of €535.3 million, which has now been accepted by the local authority in Møre og Romsdal.
