China continues to develop its expressway network. According to official figures from China’s Ministry of Transport, the expressway network grew by 8130km during 2017. This was an increase of 6.5% over 2016. A further 5.,000km of expressways should be added to the network during 2018. In all China’s tolled expressways extend for some 132,638km.
STRABAG has won the tendering process for a €125 million expressway construction contract in Hungary. The package of works is for the construction of the R76 expressway in western Hungary. The contract will involve building an 8.6km section of expressway along with a number of overbridges and will take 36 months to complete. A series of major expressway projects are under construction in China's Shaanxi province. The five expressways will improve transport links for six cities. Costing US$1.46 billion, the 75km Hancheng-Huanglong expressway should be ready for traffic in 2022. The 124km Xunyi-Fengxiang expressway is costing $2.12 billion and should be ready for traffic in 2020. Construction work on a new expressway project in China is now starting. The new route will run from Lantianxiang in Huizhou City to Xinliangwu in Wengyuan County.
