A new report suggests key strategies to cut road deaths and injuries in Latin America. The report was commissioned by Bloomberg Philanthropies and shows that more than 25,000 Latin American lives could be saved and over 170,000 serious injuries prevented by 2030 if United Nations (UN) vehicle safety regulations were applied by four key countries in the region—Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Brazil.

An agreement has been reached between Chile and Argentina over a long discussed tunnel project. The proposed tunnel would stretch 11.5km and connect Argentina’s Mendoza Province with Chile’s Region VI, with the project having first been mooted as far back as 1992. The cost of the proposed Paso Las Lenas Tunnel has yet to be revealed although the projected route through the Andes Mountains has been announced. Proposals for a second crossing over the Tees River in northern England have gone out to public consultation, according to media reports.
The Tees Valley Combined Authority, the local authority, said there are two options to take the A19 trunk road over the River Tees at the city of Middlesbrough.
One plan, costing between €235-292 million, would be for a bridge parallel to the existing one where each bridge would traffic in only one directions.
The other option is for a four-lane €350 million brid
A proposal has been put forward for wither a tunnel or bridge link crossing for the Long Island Sound. The crossing would cut journey times between Westchester County and Nassau County and Suffolk County by 30 minutes to just 60 minutes. However the estimated cost of the work could make it one of the most costly infrastructure projects for the US. Funding sources are being sought at present.
