Two new road tunnels have been proposed by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) that would pass through the Nark Kerb Mountain. The work is expected to cost in the region of US$208 million. The new links have been suggested by EXAT as a means to improve communications between Kathu-Patong beaches in Patong Muang in Phuket. The Phuket area is important to Thailand’s tourist trade which forms a key component in the country’s economy. Building the two tunnels will reduce the travel distance from 14km at
New Zealand will spend US$30 billion over the next decade on public transport, including road works not just in major urban areas but in the provinces.
The announcement was made by Transport Minister Simon Bridges after the government approved the draft Government Policy Paper 2015.
The approved document takes into consideration concerns by local government that their transport infrastructure needs would be ignored in favour of those for large urban areas, the New Zealand Herald newspaper reported.
New Zealand transport minister, Gerry Brownlee, has announced plans for a US $ 10.3 billion program to improve public transport and roads. Under the three-year plan, authorities for the public transport system, state highways and local roads will receive $ 1.36 billion, $ 4.09 billion and $ 3.29 billion, respectively, for upgrades.
