A new proposal to introduce road user charging for Hong Kong has been put forward in a bid to cut congestion. The Hong Kong Policy Research Institute (HKPRI) has suggested that open road tolling would help improve journey times for drivers, while delivering a smart city solution to Hong Kong’s chronic congestion. Cashless tolling technology has been suggested as helping deliver the best option, by eliminating the need for drivers to stop and make payments, optimising smart mobility.
The construction of two new national roads is being considered in Indonesia. Costing some US$296 million to build, the roads would form part of the Trans Papua network. One of the routes would run around 98km, connecting Wamena with Paro. Meanwhile the other road would connect Paro and Mumumu. Both routes would be offered as concession packages, with the concession term being for 15 years.
Tunnels are being proposed to improve traffic flow between The Hague and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The Dutch civil engineering consultancy Royal HaskoningHDV has carried out a study into traffic flows between the two cities. According to the study, traffic flow will improve if tunnels are built at Wassenaar where the N44 road becomes the A44 highway. The study predicts and increase in traffic volumes to 57,000 vehicles/day by 2030.
Plans are being put forward for a 14km highway project in Laos capital Vientiane. The aim of the project would be to help ease the city’s chronic congestion problems. The proposals call for the construction of a six lane highway, carrying three lanes of traffic in either direction. The proposed route runs from Xaysettha district's Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Centre (Lao-ITECC) to Xaythany district's Dongmakkhai village, alongside the existing Kaysone Phomvihane Road.
