In Japan, operators of West Nippon Expressway, Central Nippon Expressway and East Nippon Expressway are planning to spend around US$28.86 billion (JPY 3.02 trillion) to renovate ageing tunnels and bridges on their roads.
The expressway operators will be renovating around 2,110km of the combined 9,000km of expressways that they operate. This will include large scale renovations on about 1,870km of expressways, such as reinforcing tunnel foundations. The three operators will also renew about 240km of bridges
The Malaysian government has awarded a US$501.81 million (MYR 1.55bn) contract for the East Klang Valley Expressway to Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd (AZRB). The contract gives AZRB the authority and rights to carry out the Expressway’s construction and the existing road's widening and upgrading works. The concession will last up to 50 years.
Kiratpur Ner Chowk Expressway has given IL&FS Engineering Services (IL&FS) a letter of intent (LoI) for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in India worth US$263.9 million (INR 14.36bn). Under the deal, IL&FS will undertake a scope of work including minor bridges, five tunnels, 18 major bridges, toll plazas, 67.3km of road work and related infrastructure.
