New Russian highway section opening

The first section of Russia’s new A181 Scandinavia highway is due to open to traffic in October 2018. However, this is 12 months later than was originally planned as the project has been subject to a number of unforeseen issues. The new link will connect St Petersburg with Ogonki and the work has been carried out by contractor VAD, costing US$148.3 million.

    In Russia the contractor Primorsky UPK is to construct a highway connecting Primorsk with the A-181 Skandinavia Highway. The 42km highway is expected to cust US$375.3 million to build and should be ready for traffic by 2022. The contract also includes rebuilding a stretch of the existing Primorskoe Highway. Another portion of the work will be to build a 74m overpass over the Primorskoe Highway and the rail link connecting Primorsk to Ermilovo.

    A new timeline has been set for the work to rebuild Russia’s Central Ring Road 4, a project worth US$1.48 billion. The work will now be carried out from the end of 2019 to the end of 2020. The highway is being built by a consortium that comprises the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Avtoban, and the Turkish contractor Makyol.

    New state-owned roads are opening in Russia for 2019. The state-owned road firm Avtodor is to see its network grow by 202km by the end of 2019. The key link opening for traffic will be the new M11 highway connecting capital Moscow with St Petersburg. The final stretches of the M11 are now being finished.
