New road projects started in Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia work is being planned for nine separate road projects worth a total of US$400 million All of the projects are located in Saudi Arabi’s Eastern Region. In Saudi Arabia work is being planned for nine separate road projects worth a total of US$400 million All of the projects are located in Saudi Arabi’s Eastern Region. The Saudi Arabian Government is investigating the potential for the new King Hamad Causeway project to be carried out under the PPP model. This would include the potential for funding being delivered by international sources. The feasibility study for the project should be ready by early 2019.

Saudi Arabia's Transport Ministry is also considering introducing tolling across the country’s road network. The Saudi Arabian Government may have its tolling plan ready by 2020. There are plans in hand to introduce road tolling in the city of Riyadh earlier than for the rest of the country.

    A new road project in Costa Rica is being evaluated at present. The plans call for an upgrade of Route 32, providing an improved 46km link between Virilla River and Sucio River areas. The project would require the driving a new tunnel in parallel with the existing Zurqui Tunnel, located on the southern side of the Braulio Carillo National Park. The project is expected to cost US$643 million and the route is likely to be offered to tender under a 30 year tolled concession package. A full feasibility study ha
