A major new road project is being proposed for Mexico City in a bid to help reduce the heavy peak time congestion. Building a 4.8km road and connecting links on the west of Mexico City could come with a pricetag of some US$1.06 billion.

Building this link is expected to take around five years to carry out. The project will include tunnel sections, stretches of elevated viaduct and link roads. The work is needed however given Mexico City’s chronic traffic congestion, which often results in lengthy delays for drivers at peak periods. Although accurate figures are hard to obtain due to the number of people living in unofficial developments around the city, it is recognised that Mexico City has surpassed Seoul in South Korea to become the world’s second largest city by population, after Tokyo in Japan.

A major road infrastructure development is being put forward in South Australia. A 14km-long bridge is being proposed that would connect Kangaroo Island with the mainland. The bridge has an estimated pricetag of US$3.7 billion (A$5 billion). The proposals call for a PPP project, with tolls on the four lane bridge helping to pay for its construction. However with a population of under 5,000, there are questions as to whether there would be sufficient traffic between Kangaroo Island and the mainland to make t

The World Bank looks likely to supply funding that will help pay for a major road improvement project in Nicaragua. The US$75 million loan should be agreed by November 2016, if all goes to plan. The funding will pay for major improvement works for the road connecting Nicaragua’s capital Managua with the country’s second city, Leon. At present the route suffers heavily from congestion at peak periods and is unsuited to the traffic volumes it has to cope with. The construction work is expected to commence in
