Congestion around Casablanca’s international airport will be reduced with the building of a new motorway

New motorway stretches are being planned in Morocco that will help cut peak time congestion in key areas. One of the biggest projects is for a new 60km motorway that will be constructed to connect Rabat and Casablanca. This project is being planned by Moroccan motorway operator Société Nationale des Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM). The route will run between Rabat’s ring road and Casablanca’s ring road. Construction work is expected to commence in 2020, with the work taking until 2030 to complete. The project should cost around US$528 million to carry out.

Another project will be for the construction of a 30km motorway between Casablanca and Berrechid, which will help reduce congestion in the area around Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport. This project is expected to cost in the region of $211.2 million. In addition, there are plans for a 105km motorway connecting Nador, in north east Morocco on the Mediterranean coast, with the town of Guercif to its south.
