New highway for Russia’s north west

In the north west of Russia, plans are in hand for a new highway project. The 80km highway is expected to cost US$172 million. The tender process is now underway and 40km of the highway is to be offered under a concession package. This section of the Syktyvkar - Naryan-Mar (the Nenets Autonomous Area, North-West) highway will be built in the Komi Republic. Construction of the highway is planned to commence in 2015, with completion expected in 2018.

    A new bridge will be built in Russia’s North-West region. The bridge will span the Sheksna River at Cherepovets. The project is expected to cost US$247.5 million. Preparatory works will commence during 2019 and the approach roads to the link are being improved. The 1.13km bridge will be the longest in the Vologda Region and should be ready by 2022. A new 8km southern bypass for Cherepovets with three lanes in either direction will also be built as part of a wider plan to improve transport for the city.

    The Governor of Russia’s Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, wants to renovate the M10 Scandinavia highway under the public-private partnership scheme and introduce a toll for using several of its sections. A key 872km highway connecting Russia’s two biggest cities, Moscow and St Petersburg, and continuing to the border with Finland, the Scandinavia highway brings in 20-25% of Russia's overall import. The 67km Khémis Miliana-Berrouaghia bypass is expected to cost around US$836 million, with work due for completion at the end of 2016. The project is being handled by an Algerian/Italian team.
