New highway connection for Algeria’s road network

Construction work on a 48km section of road connecting Tizi-Ouzou with Algeria’s East-West motorway is due for completion in 2016. Construction work on a 48km section of road connecting Tizi-Ouzou with Algeria’s East-West motorway is due for completion in 2016. The work is costing close to US$960 million, according to the Algerian Public Works Ministry. In addition, construction work on a road connecting Aïn El Hammam with Draâ El Mizan is now commencing while the Algerian Public Works Ministry has said that the Northern Bypass will be completed as planned by the end of March 2015. Several of the country’s planned road infrastructure projects have been delayed by local opposition, triggered by disagreements over compensation payments. The Algerian Public Works Ministry has also said that construction work on a 620km stretch of the Hauts Plateaux motorway will begin at the end of 2014. In all, the Hauts Plateaux motorway will run for some 1,030km. Further details on the rest of the highway will be revealed in due course.
