New highway announced in Bolivia

Bolivia’s highway expansion programme continues with plans unveiled for a new project worth some US$400 million. The highway will be located in the vicinity of Cochabamba. Discussions over financing the project have been carried out with the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). A timeline for the project has not so far been announced however. The route of the highway has also to be announced.

    Construction work on the road connecting the Bolivian towns of Riberalta and Rurrenabaque has been halted. The project to upgrade Bolivia’s Route 8 is being carried out by a Chinese contractor.     Work on a new dual lane highway connecting La Paz with Santa Cruz in Bolivia is set to cost US$1 billion. The work will be complete by 2019 and the route will link La Paz with Santa Cruz, running through Cochabamba. The Bolivian Ministry of Public Works says that this project will be carried out in addition to previous developments to the road system between La Paz and Oruro.     Financing has been found for road repairs and rebuilding in Paraguay. A series of planned projects will see roads and bridge being refurbished and rebuilt. The Latin American Development Bank (CAF) will provide loans worth US$272 million for road and bridge repairs. A $50 million loan will be used to pay for work in the country’s Oriental region.
